Mildred Laura (Stevenson) McKelvey

Mildred Laura (Stevenson) McKelvey, 95, of Parsons, Kansas, died September 12, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Parsons.

She was born June 18, 1913 at Camp Ground in Green County, one of eight children born to U. B. and Maude (Reynolds) Stevenson, and grew up in that area.

On November 29, 1933 she married Gaither A. McKelvey, a Methodist minister. They lived in various places during Rev. McKelvey’s years as a pastor, primarily in Arkansas. They moved to Parsons in April of 1989, and Rev. McKelvey died on August 14, 1989 after 54 years of marriage.

Mrs. McKelvey was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Round Table Club, and the China Painting Club. She had been a member of the Eastern Star, and served as Worthy Matron. She was very supportive of the Alzheimer’s Association and the Methodist Church as minister of music for many years. Mildred described her life as “a musical journey and a rich tapestry” and most important she considered “her wonderful family as her greatest treasure”.

She is survived by three children; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, 10:00 A. M. at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Parsons. Friends may call at the Carson-Walls Funeral Home in Parsons Sunday.

Graveside funeral services will be Tuesday, 1:30 P. M. at Linwood Cemetery under direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday, 10:00 A. M. until 1:00 P. M. at Mitchell Funeral Home.
