Gaither A. McKelvey

Gaither A. McKelvey was born March 12, 1912 in Green County, Arkansas to Adolphus and Ora Gragg McKelvey.  He died August 14, 1989 at the Labette County Medical Center at age 77.

He graduated from Arkansas State University, Jonesboro and Perkins School of Theology.  he served the Douglasville Methodist Church in Texas.  In 1950 he returned to Arkansas and served Monette, Earle, Jacksonville, Harrisburg, Fort Smith, Pocahontas and Manila, from where he retired in 1977.  He moved to Jasper, Arkansas after retiring.

He and Mildred Stevenson were married November 29, 1933.  She survives her husband; other survivors include a son; two daughters; and 7 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held August 16, 1989 at the First Methodist Church of Paragould, with the Reverend Waymon Hollis officiating.  Burial was in Linwood Cemetery at Paragould. 

"During 38 1/2 years of active ministry, I have found happiness by carrying out the commands of God to the best of my ability.  Great joy has come through preaching the Gospel, holding revival meetings, baptizing, performing weddings, saying last rites for the dead, seeing souls saved, visiting and counseling with people and building churches.  To sum it all up, I must say I was blessed of God being allowed to preach the Gospel."
