From the North Arkansas Conference Journal, 1967:

Mrs. Alonzo McKelvey

1877-1966

Mrs. Alonzo McKelvey was the tenth of eleven children born to Simpson and Mary Ellen Smith at Camden, Tennessee.  She was born Vennie Smith, January 1, 1877.  All the other children preceded her in death.  She was married to Reverend Alonzo McKelvey, November 5, 1893, in the Camp Ground Methodist Church a few miles north of Paragould.  To this union were born three children, James Printice and Winnie Ellen who died in infancy, and later Ruth who is now Mrs. Ruth Nimnicht of Hot Springs.
During the life of Brother McKelvey, Mrs. McKelvey served well as a pastor's wife.  She was faithful and helped in every way that she could.  She had great will power and was able to face trouble and to press forward to victory.  her faith never weakened or faltered.  She always felt that God could help her through the problems to a right solution.
Mrs. McKelvey opened her home to several children who needed a home and love.  Surely such are the ones who were included in the words of Jesus, "In that you have done it unto one of the least of these, you have done it unto me."  Such labors of love gained the confidence of friends and neighbors.
After her husband's death, Mrs. McKelvey moved to the farm and operted it until failing health caused her to retire.  She then moved to Hot Springs where she lived with her daughter from 1946 until her death November 2, 1966.
Laid to rest beside her husband in Linwood Cemetery at Paragould, she leaves to remember her life one daughter, two grandsons and nine great-grandchildren.
