THOS. G. ROE, JR.
Thomas G. Roe, Jr., aged 15, died Saturday afternoon, November 15, 1930, at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. G. Roe, Sr., in this city, after an illness of three weeks with typhoid fever. He is survived by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were conducted at the First Methodist Church, Sunday afternoon, by the Rev. Jno. L. Tucker, pastor. Interment in Lake Side Cemetery in the presence of a large gathering of loved ones and friends.
THOS. G. ROE
We indeed regret to chronicle the death of Thos. G., the 15 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. T.G. Roe of this city, which occurred at their home here on Saturday afternoon, Nov 15th.
Thos. G., had suffered a fatal attack of typhoid fever, and tho' a child he bore he suffering with a fortitude of one much more mature years, half-unconscious, he met those who visited him with a broad smile of contentment and recognition that remained with him, until the cold hand of death touched him and called him hence.
Thos. G., was a member of the Methodist, and loved his Church and Sunday School work, in fact he was so imbued with the christian spirit, that just before the end, he requested his dear old mother and those about him to join him in a song, and leading--in a clear and istinct voice, he sang "When The Roll is Called Up Yonder, I'll Be There."
Rev. J. L. Tucker, pastor of the Methodist Church, who was attending Conference at Pine Bluff, was called home to conduct funeral services which were held at the Church, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and concluded at the grave in Lakeside Cemetery in the presence of one of the largest crowds that ever gathered to pay a last tribut of respect to a departed youth, and friend.
We deeply sympathize with the bereaved family.
On Nov. 15th, when the death angel entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. T.G. Roe and took Thomas G. their eldest son, they and the town of Des Arc lost a wonderful little christian character that can nver be replaced.
Oh how much he will be missed in the home, in the town and especially in the Methodist church that he loved so much and where his polace was never vacant if it were possible for him to be there.
Thomas G. was the most devout christian I have ever known in a boy of fifteen years, and the example he set in his few years on this earth, with his sweet disposition and his constant desire to always to right and doing it has left its marks with his scout boy friends, and older men and women that knew him.
It seemed his thoughts ever dwelt on the higher things of life even in one so young, and it was proven beyond a doubt when a few hours before he passed in to that great beyond he called his loved ones around him and asked them to help him sing, "Whe The Roll Is Called Up Yonder", singing with them to the end, then with the words "Jesus is calling me" and asking them to meet him over there, he left this world world of sadness and sorrow to enter the one that is promised for beautiful lives like his.
We will miss his little smiling face here and altho, we can not see it now, it is still smiling for us up there where we hope to see him again.
One Who Loved Him Dearly.
